About Gregory Douglass

Gregory Douglass' evocative pop sound blends “Rufus Wainwright’s opulent musicality and Justin Timberlake’s accessible soulfulness” (OUT Magazine). NPR’s Morning Edition has coined him “one of New England’s best-kept secrets.”

An internationally acclaimed recording artist, songwriting teacher, public speaker, and creative business coach, Gregory has been managing his own music career and inspiring audiences for two decades now. He’s taught hundreds of songwriting students the art of his signature Intuitive Songwriting process, and his inspirational articles have been featured on Mike Dooly’s TUT.com blog, NationWide Disc’s Source, and PledgeMusic.

Now based in Los Angeles, CA, Gregory was born and raised in rural Vermont. He's a self-taught pianist, guitarist, vocalist & songwriter/composer. While attending Brewster Academy in 1997-99 – a college-preparatory boarding high school in New Hampshire – Douglass composed and recorded the material for his first two albums If I Were A Man and Gregory Douglass (self-titled).

With ten (10) original studio albums independently released today, his songs have reached millions of listeners digitally, and his videos have amounted to more than a million views on his YouTube channels. According to Pandora’s co-founder, Tim Westergren, Gregory is one of the top independent artists on Pandora radio.

Gregory wants a better world for the future sustainability of independent music. His album My Hero, The Enemy speaks directly to this crucial paradigm which Gregory describes as “The blessing and the curse of creativity in the age of information.” Gregory explains, “It’s also an ode to the dichotomy of being a creative person in the digital age. Every song on My Hero, The Enemy explores the polarity of such emotional struggles and attempts to expose the underlying truth behind many of life's misconceptions.”

Now, he’s teamed up with Patreon to help fix what’s currently broken in the industry – a reliable stream of income for artists and creators. “I believe artist membership models like Patreon are on the right path to the future of creative sustainability. Music sales have plummeted but the expenses required to create and release new music remain the same. Artists cannot sustain their craft today without the vital support of their fans.”

Gregory’s own patrons funded his latest Live From The Chapel project – a live album and video “rockumentary” concert. Every song from My Hero, The Enemy was performed live at The Chapel in San Francisco, CA specifically for this project.

Gregory’s song “Alibis” was featured in season one of Netflix original series The Rain in 2019, which sparked a fast-growing international following of his music. He has shared the stage with artists including Jason Mraz, They Might Be Giants, Regina Spektor, Shawn Colvin, Patty Griffin, and Anais Mitchell, among others.
