Music At Work offers an exclusive, ongoing sneak-peek into new songs on the horizon. All song titles and lyrics are subject to change, evolve, or disappear entirely over time, but I want to share some of the beginning stages of the creative process with you in real-time.
Here are lyrics from a brand new song with the working title “Don’t Give Up.” It’s a soulful little power-ballad, akin to “Better Tomorrow” from my 2005 Stark album in my mind, and it might even call for a another choir in the background once it’s recorded.
Don’t Give Up
by Gregory Douglass
You said you need some courage
You said you need a cure
You said you need hand
So close but so far
When you call upon desire
Your love and truth align
You are a better man
It’s alright, it’s all leveling
Take a look at what you’re made of
This is who you are
This is who you are
It’s nothing more than you can handle
This is who you are
This is who you are
Don’t give up on yourself so easily
Don’t give into sorrow more than you need
Don’t just wait till it’s too late
Don’t give up, don’t give up
They’ve got you living for tomorrow
But you’ve only got today
So what’s it gonna be?
It’s not hard
It’s all up to your will to wake the wild
The call that beacons the child
From deep within the man
It’s alright, it’s all leveling
Take a look at what you’re made of
This is who you are
This is who you are
It’s nothing more than you can handle
This is who you are
This is who you are
So don’t give up on yourself so easily
Don’t give into sorrow more than you need
Don’t just wait till it’s too late
Don’t give up, don’t give up
